14 Feburary Pulwama Attack: A Horrific Attack
The Pulwama attack was a suicide terror attack on a CRPF (Central Reserve Police Force) convoy in the Pulwama district of Jammu & Kashmir on 14 February 2019. 40 CRPF soldiers lost their lives in this attack. This attack was carried out by Pakistan-based terror group Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM). After this attack, tensions between India and Pakistan increased further and India responded with the Balakot airstrike.
Expanse of the attack The Pulwama attack occurred when a large CRPF convoy of 78 vehicles was going from Jammu to Srinagar. As the convoy was passing through Lethpora area of Pulwama district, a suicide bomber, Adil Ahmad Dar, a member of Jaish-e-Mohammed, drove his explosive-laden SUV into a bus. The blast was so powerful that the entire bus was shattered and nearby vehicles were severely damaged.
Immediately after the attack, Jaish-e-Mohammed claimed responsibility for it. Investigation revealed that the explosives were smuggled from Pakistan and the attack was executed with the help of local Kashmiri militants.
India’s reaction Immediately after the Pulwama attack, both grief and anger were visible in India. Protests started across the country and strict action was demanded against Pakistan.
Diplomatic Action: India took back the ‘Most Favored Nation’ (MFN) status given to Pakistan and created pressure against it on international forums.
Military Action – Balakot Airstrike: On 26 February 2019, India carried out an airstrike on the training camps of Jaish-e-Mohammed in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. Many militants were killed in this operation.
Security Measures: Indian Army and paramilitary forces intensified anti-terror operations in Kashmir. Many terrorist commanders were neutralized to be done.
Pakistan’s Response Pakistan denied any involvement in the Pulwama attack and dismissed India’s allegations as false. However, India provided full proof of JeM’s links and the terrorists being Pakistan-based. The international community, including the USA, France, and the UK condemned the attack and asked Pakistan to take action against terrorism.

United Nations (UN) UN condemned this attack and talked about taking action against terrorist organizations.
United States USA asked Pakistan to end terrorist safe havens and showed solidarity with India.
France and Russia Both countries supported India and talked about putting pressure on Pakistan.
